About Fresh FM
More than just a radio station
Fresh FM is your community access radio station for Te Tauihu, the Top of the South. We’re more than just a radio station – we’re the pulse of the region. Every day, we amplify the voices that make our community unique – from local storytellers and creators to activists and everyday people with extraordinary stories. FreshFM is where you hear the heart of our region through music, conversations, and connections. We give a voice to those who might otherwise go unheard, strengthening the fabric of our community.
We’re a station by the people, for the people, and about the people. Every programme is crafted by volunteers – locals living and breathing the same experiences as you. Our studios in Nelson, Motueka, and Tākaka are creative hubs where ideas are born, voices are nurtured, and stories are shared – all powered by the passion of people like you.

Fresh FM is a not-for-profit charitable trust and community access radio station serving Te Tauihu, the Top of the South.
Our story began in the 1990s, when Boulder Radio and Harvest Radio came together with a shared belief that local radio could strengthen community life. That belief still guides us today. Fresh FM continues to grow and adapt, while staying committed to local voices, community participation, and stories that reflect the people and places around us.
We provide access to studios, training, broadcast platforms, podcasting, and practical support so people can share their stories, ideas, music, cultures, languages, and lived experiences. Our programme makers include volunteers, rangatahi, community groups, creatives, advocates, local organisations, and everyday people with something to say.
Fresh FM helps create connection. We support voices that are not always represented in mainstream media, encourage local storytelling, and provide a trusted platform for public information, community conversations, and creative expression.
Whether you listen, make a programme, volunteer, donate, sponsor, or partner with us, you are helping keep community access media strong for Te Tauihu.
